Hi there, I'm Julia, part of the Recruiting Team at WMDE.
I mostly worked in high pressure and KPI driven work environments. I've seen people struggling with mental health to certain extends in their job, their daily lifes and just walking down the streets in Berlin and mostly felt powerless and didn't know how to help or what to do.
In 2023 I came across the Mental Health First Aid course and signed up a few months later. Taking the course gave me some confidence how to address or deal with certain situations and also gave me tools and methods for an immediate or short term help for others. I'd love to share my insights with you and are always up for a chat how we can improve mental health and support each other in times of a mental crisis.

Wenn du auf der Strasse hinfällst und dir das Bein brichts, dann weisst du sofort, unter der 112 bekommst du Hilfe und einen Rettungswagen. Im Idealfall ist auch jemand in deiner Nähe mit einer Erste Hilfe Ausbildung und kann dir an Ort und Stelle behilflich sein. Doch wie ist es bei Krisen, die nicht sofort sichtbar sind? Wie gehst du damit um, wenn du die Nachbarin verwirrt und orientierungslos im Hausflur triffst? Oder wen du das Gefühl hast, dem Teamkollegen geht es gerade nicht so gut und du möchtest gerne das Gespräch suchen? Die Ausbildung zum Mentalen Ersthelfer*in setzt genau da an. Gerne möchte ich euch eine kurze Einführung geben, worum es in der Ausbildung geht und wie du Methoden kennenlernst, um kompetent und sicher bei psychischen Gesundheitsproblemen und Krisen helfen zu können.
If you fall down in the street and break your leg, you know immediately that you can call 112 for help and an ambulance. Ideally, there will also be someone nearby who has first aid training and can help you on the spot. But what about crises that are not immediately visible? How do you deal with it when you meet your neighbour in the hallway, confused and disoriented? Or when you feel that your teammate is not doing so well and you would like to talk to them? This is exactly where mental first aid training comes in. I would like to give you a brief introduction to what the training involves and which methods you learn to help competently and confidently in situations of mental health problems and crises.
