A look into the idea of peer support, using the example of Wisdom of Wombats — a support group for those who support and connect with the Wikipedia community.

Als Ansprechpersonen für die Wikipedia-Community unterstützen wir Ehrenamtliche in verschiedenen Tätigkeitsfeldern – beratend, umsetzend und manchmal auch als Kummerkasten. Häufig werden wir als das Gesicht von WMDE wahrgenommen und bei Problemen angesprochen, auch wenn wir wenig Einfluss darauf haben – das kann belastend sein.
Wisdom of Wombats ist ein selbstorganisierter Austauschraum für die kollegiale Beratung:
- ein safe-space für den Austausch zu Konflikten und Herausforderungen
- ein Ort, an dem unkompliziert Unterstützung organisiert werden kann
- ein Lern-Ort, an dem wir uns darüber austauschen können, was gut und mal weniger gut geklappt hat
- ein Ort zur Reflektion über die Rolle als Ansprechpersonen
- ein Ort, an dem wir gemeinsame Bedarfe und Herausforderungen identifizieren und angehen können, die uns als Ansprechpersonen oder die Community betreffen

As points of contact for the Wikipedia community, we community managers support volunteers in a range of roles — offering advice, helping to get things done, and sometimes just being there to listen. We're often seen as the “faces” of WMDE and are approached with issues, even when we have limited influence over them – which can be a lot to carry.
Wisdom of Wombats is a self-organized peer support space designed for exactly that kind of load-sharing:
- a safe space to talk about conflicts and challenges
- a place to quickly and easily find support
- a learning space to reflect on what worked – and what didn’t
- a place to explore and better understand our roles as community managers
- a space to identify and tackle shared needs or challenges – whether they affect us or the community we support
